Lickity SplitTail (HSH) and ALi Gorey (WC) clash in turn 1 - Thanks to GearJammer (HSH) for the photo
The Wrecking Crew defeated the High Seas Hotties Saturday night in a come from behind victory, 64-60 to advance to the Dallas Derby Devils league championship bout in September. In the first bout of the evening, the defending champion Slaughterers dominated the fourth seed Death Row Rumblers 119-34 to move on to the DDD championship event.

The High Seas Hotties- Wrecking Crew bout would open up very evenly, with both teams trading leads in the early jams. The Wrecking Crew was the more explosive team on this evening, and in the fourth jam of bout would score seven points by Anita Riot to take a 12-8 lead. Cherry Pop Tart would strike back the next jam for the High Seas Hotties scoring her teams' highest jam of the bout with six points, giving the Hotties a 14-12 lead. Anita Riot would score a ten point jam in the eight jam of the half to take a 29-19 lead. The Hotties would shut out the Wrecking Crew for the next three jam and take back
the lead 32-29. The last jam of the half would not see a lead jammer, as Ingersoll Rand would put up seven points for the Crew against the Hotties' three points and the score would be tied 36-36 at the half.

Hot For Teacher would start off the first jam of the second half scoring three points and the High Seas Hotties would take a 39-36 lead. But the pivotal jam of the bout would occur next.

Hot For Teacher would gain lead jammer after Ingersoll Rand had broken out of the pack first. But shortly after she gained lead jammer, she would also gain a fourth minor penalty, confusing to some observers. Because the game was being played under WFTDA 2.1.1 rules, and because there was a penalty cap in effect, the Hotties jammer would not be able to get into the penalty box because if was already occupied by two of her teammates. When she tried to cut the jam off, the bout officials did not permit it. Ingersoll Rand continued skating and scored ten points during the jam. Hot for Teacher eventually scored four points, but the Wrecking Crew had gained a 46-43 lead.

However, the Hotties, and many of the fans in NYTEX Sports Centre, did not understand why the jam was not allowed to be cut off, or what had just happened. Because DDD travel-team member Barooski questioned the call, and since she was not a team captain, she was ejected from the game for insubordination, and this was a major loss for the Hotties that would eventually make a huge difference in the game.

I'm not going to pretend to write a recap of the Nevermind the Manners bout, words just can not describe the jaw dropping, nail biting, edge of your seat action! But at the end of the night the Death Row Rumblers secured their first ever regular season win! 68 to 64 over the Suicide Shifters! The main event, the Wrecking Crew and High Seas Hotties bout started out with the Hotties dominating the Crew and at halftime the Hotties were ahead. After the conclusion of nail biting Rumbler win, the Wrecking Crew pulled out their sledge hammers and chipped away at that point lead to win with a final heart stopping Wrecking Crew win of 70 over the High Seas Hotties 69!!

After the bout the party started at Bronco's Sport Bar and Grill as the girls celebrated their victories and the good friends and sportmanship that is Dallas Roller Derby! The DDD also wants to say a very special thank you to our very own Made'n Texas, Suicide Shifter, Media Director and one Bad ass chick. Made'N will be moving up north to teach those Yankee roller girls how Dallas Does Derby. She'll be missed by her team, her friends and all her fans!

And now for the official unofficial recap from Phil of Roller Derby is Sport:

The Wrecking Crew made an amazing second half comeback, and held off the High Seas Hotties in the last jam to take a 70-69 victory in Dallas Derby Devils action Saturday night in North Richland Hills. In the opening bout of the night the Death Row Rumblers picked up their first league victory ever defeating the Suicide Shifters 68-64 in another exciting bout.

The High Seas Hotties opened up the game with a 5-0 jam by Hot For Teacher. Anita Riot would counter with 10 points the next jam, and the Wrecking Crew would pull to within 12-10 of the Hotties. The Hotties would counter with a ten-point jam by Hot for Teacher and a 4-point jam by Cherry Pop Tart would put the 2006 league champions up 26-10. Ingersoll Rand would counter with her largest jam of the night, a nine-point jam, and the lead would be reduced to 28-19. The Hotties would draw the lead back to 43-25 by the ninth jam of the half. But Anita Riot would score 11 points for the Wrecking Crew while WC blocker Ali Gorey was sustaining a booty block for two laps before finally taking out the Hotties jammer and last year’s runner-up squad was back in the game 46-36 at halftime.

The Wrecking Crew and High Seas Hotties would trade scoring jams back and forth for the first part of the second half. But Weapon X would score five points in jam 8 of the second half and the lead would be narrowed to 60-58. A four point jam by Hot For Teacher would set up the big two jams of the night for the Wrecking Crew. The High Seas Hotties’ jammer Barooski would be sent to the penalty box in the 11th jam of the half, and Anita Riot would score five points to tie up the game. She cut off the jam while the Hotties jammer was still in the box.

Slaughterers, High Seas Hotties Victorious

Two of the top teams the Dallas Derby Devils league laid claim to belonging in the Championship game Saturday night in North Richland Hills, Texas. The Slaughterers defeated the Suicide Shifters 130-35, and the High Seas Hotties beat the Death Row Rumblers 97-39.

The High Seas Hotties and the Death Row Rumblers opened up their bout with a close defensive struggle. After five jams in the first half the score was 10-7 in favor of the High Seas Hotties. But a five-point jam by Bits and Pieces, and another five-point jam by Cherry Pop Tart gave the Hotties a 20-7 lead. That set up the big jam of the game.

Hot for Teacher would break out of the pack and score three grand slams (all blockers and the jammer passed) and would score 15 points while the Death Row Rumblers were being shut out. The main reason the HSH's would control the pack would be their formidable front wall that not only controlled that big scoring jam, but would control the pack the rest of the night. By the end of the first half the Hotties had built up a 43-12 lead.

As with the start of the first half, the second half would start off very evenly as both teams would score eight points in the first two jams. But in the fourth jam of the second half, Rink Panther would score a 9-0 jam against the Rumblers and the High Seas Hotties blockers would gain control of the pack again. Hot for Teacher would add a nine-point jam in the 7th jam of the half. Strawberry Deathcake would counter for the Death Row Rumblers with their largest jam of the ninth, a nine-point jam but the score would still be 84-32 in favor of the one-loss Hotties. The team in red would outscore the Rumblers 54-27 in the second half, a bit of an improvement over the first half for the team still seeking their first league victory ever, but the bout was never really in question the second half.
