April 2025 : Volunteer of the Month
With our upcoming home season, it’s time to step back and appreciate some of the people who keep our league running- including our officials! Officiating with DDD for over a decade, Ice Queen sure knows her way around a ruleset, and is Aprils volunteer of the month— You can’t have a game without officials, so here’s some words from one of our dominion members now!
Why did you decide to become a derby official?
“I can’t play due to medical reasons, but becoming an official allowed me to stay involved in the action and contribute to the game.”
How has DDD altered your life?
“DDD has given me a sense of purpose and community. It’s a great group of people, and I’ve learned so much about the sport, teamwork, and leadership. It’s also helped me stay active and involved in something I’m passionate about despite not being able to play.”
What’s your favorite part of being an official?
“My favorite part is definitely being part of the action in the game. It’s incredibly rewarding when seeing the players’ growth in their journey.”
Do you have a favorite memory with DDD?
“There are a few! One of my favorite memories was the bus trip to Milwaukee for the BrewHaHa Tournament, where everyone piled on the public transportation bus back to the airport. Another unforgettable moment was the 48-hour bus road trip to Ohio and back in one weekend. And, of course, officiating at the 2024 South Regional Playoffs and getting to watch Dallas play in them was a highlight.”
With our home season coming up, why should people come watch and join the Dallas Derby Devils?
“Our home season is always full of excitement and energy! People should come watch for the thrilling, fast-paced action, and because it’s a great atmosphere where you get to witness incredible athletes pushing themselves to the limit. Whether you’re a fan of the sport or just looking for something fun to do, DDD has something for everyone. And for those thinking about joining, there’s an incredible community waiting to welcome you, whether you want to skate, officiate, or just volunteer. We’re all about inclusion and growth.”
