November 2024 : Junior Skater of the Month
Roxie
Congratulations to Roxie (#415), our November Skater of the month!
We feel this is long overdue as Roxie has been pillar of our junior roller derby for many years! Roxie has been playing for 10 years and was first introduced to the sport by her mom, Polly Puredread. She has a passion for the sport because of the “roller derby community and getting to bond and make real meaningful connections with people”. Her derby name was an easy pick as it is her actual name and also from her favorite musical, Chicago. Her favorite position to play is Pivot.
Junior roller derby is FUN, so we asked Roxie to share a favorite memory: “A fun story that always makes me smile is during Scallywags game in Louisiana i was pivot and Oblivi8 was the jammer and we came up with the idea to yell out “SKIBIDI” to pass the star and the funny thing is that it actually worked and we passed it.”
If you are thinking about joining roller derby, Roxie has some great advice “One thing I always hear from people who want to start roller derby or have started and want to quit is that ‘they don’t know how to skate.’ We all start from somewhere and we all grow and learn differently than the people around us.”
