What's your role in the DDD organization?

I skate for one of the home teams, Wrecking Crew. I also NSO, so you'll often find me working the penalty box at a game or scrimmage if I'm not on skates. I was the Recruitment and Events Chair for some time at the beginning of this year, but admittedly, I had to step down due to conflicts in my personal life. But I still try to attend and lead as many of our events as possible!

How/why did you get involved in roller derby?

I attended a DDD game in the 2024 season with friends and thought, "That looks fun!" and "I can do that!" I was on wheels and in the Underworld training program by the following week.

How did you come up with your derby name?

My friend used ChatGPT to come up with a lot of options, and the same group that I went to my first game with voted on their favorite. But also, I have my Masters in Library Science! (Fun fact: my number, 210, specifies 'roller derby' in the Dewey Decimal System! The full number is 796.210.)

What made you decide to get involved in the volunteer aspect of DDD?

It was a great way to meet people when I joined the league. I wasn't interacting with many other skaters outside of Underworld, so I jumped at the opportunity to help lead one of our league's biggest fundraisers, the annual chili cook-off and carnival. Additionally, I enjoy doing my part in keeping our league accessible, fun, and inclusive!

What's been your favorite volunteer activity?

I am biased toward the chili cook-off because I'm so involved in its preparation. But I love tasting all the different chilis and snacking on the league members' sweets from the bake sale!

What do you like to do outside of derby?

I love to travel! In my free time, you'll catch me hanging out with friends, reading a book, or doomscrolling on TikTok. But honestly, what's free time?!

What's your advice to new skaters?

Everyone learns at their own pace. It's easier said than done, but try not to compare yourself to others. Take what others are doing and apply it to your skill set. I remember not knowing how to stop at my first practice a year ago. You will get there!

What are some upcoming events derby folks (& regular folks!) can get involved with?

I'll be at all of these, so come see me!
